Pah Tempe Mineral Hot Springs is Under Siege
1/9/02
Pah
Tempe is a Historical, Sacred, World Famous, Peaceful, Healing Hot Springs.
Although under siege by the Washington County Water Conservancy
District(WCWCD), Pah Tempe is still seeking a win win situation.
Unfortunately,
the WCWCD has not accepted any input or suggestions.
They have ignored approved plans & Court Order(Dept. of the Army
Permit #82-187-TM; & Court Order of Nov. 15, 2001 calling for Caissons)
& regulatory agencies(U.S. Army Corps of Engineers letters of Oct. 31
& Nov. 26, 2001) & taken the path of least resistance, which has
continued to cost more in the long run(nearly $2,000,000).
This
has been the case dating back to 1984 & it continues today.
At the present time all notices to not proceed or to cease and desist
have been ignored, and with no apparent consequences.
Pah
Tempe, & nearly 2000 people who have signed a supporting petition, have
petitioned the courts to have some input into actions necessary to preserve
these historical & sacred springs.
These,
and many thousand other supporters, do not deny the need for the pipeline.
They
only wish to see it done in a responsible way, which respects the environment
and the aesthetics of the area, and adheres to Federal, State and Local Laws
and regulations.
The
Water Board has gone so far as to try and get these Historic, Sacred Springs
condemned as a major source of pollution into the Virgin River.
This
Special place is a Gift of Nature that must be respected &
protected(Unless they plan to condemn Nature all together).
Historically,
the WCWCD deviated from the approved 404 permit plans in 1984 & laid the
66" water pipe in the Virgin River bed.
In the process, they ignored warnings and inadvertently ruptured the
limestone bed while dynamiting, thus drying up the flow of hot springs water
to the grotos. The WCWCD claimed
to repair these ruptures.
